The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
