Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
